velocity hot spot with 2 laptops and wireless printer need router

I have an AT&T metered hotspot device "velocity".  I just puchased an HP printer OJ 8710 pro, which has wireless capabilities.  I want to attach 2 laptop computers to the printer using wireless, but don't want to have to startup the hotspot to print everytime and don't want to use up my data for printing.  What kind of router can I get to attach both pcs to the printer and then to the hotspot?  Both PC's have 802.11 bgn wi-fi adapters.    Thanks for any help you can give me.

If the printer has Wifi built in, consider connecting to your printers direct Wifi connection to initate driverless setup. It should have an access pin code or something in order to complete the setup.

I'm a bit confused when you said you use Data for printing. Local Area Networks don't count as using "Data" for your printing.

Re: velocity hot spot with 2 laptops and wireless printer need router

I did connect using wi-fi direct.  However, If I want to do some print screens from the internet.  I have to disconnect from the internet to get them to print and then reconnect after they do so.  It would work fine while not on the internet, but probably not the best solution for me at this time.

When I try to set the printer up using wi-fi(not direct wifi), it attaches to my hotspot device as an additional connection, so I'm guessing that uses data when it does.  I need another solution and think the router might work, but want to get one that works with a hotspot (Velocity- ZTE MF923).

Thanks for your original suggestion, any more advice?

Hi ch880 –

Your hotspot essentially functions as a router already, so adding a second one into the mix would likely only add more complications to what you’re trying to do. Connecting your printer to the hotspot as an additional connection shouldn’t use any additional data as it is not downloading anything from the internet, and only receiving local information directly from your laptops.

Thank you, Michael.  I didn't realize that it would not use data.  That's valuable information!
