Unless the advertisement explicitly says there are no rain checks, you might want to inquire this at your local BBY, to see if they do take them.

best buy usually don't do rain checks on laptops anymore because of the fact that we can't guarantee when the components will come in, therefore customers will complain if the computer doesn't come in for two weeks.
it is a really good laptop. guarantees speed and power for the price. u can call ur store and see what other stores nearby that has the laptop. u can always purchase on bestbuy.com and price match it in the store.

ok i just ordered the pc from my local bestbuy, should receive it on wednesday or thursday.
i also bought the protection plan (i believe both hardware and accedental coverage). is this the same as the "black tie protection" from geek squad? because i paid 299.99 for 3 years. and online it says the black tie protection is only 149.99.
is the protection plan i bought better than the black tie coverage? what is the difference? (for reference, the sku# is 8960939)
thanks

it's the same. the full name is Geek Squad Black Tie Protection, aka GSBTP. try saying that 3 times in a row :-P
you can bring the computer in to have them create a restore cd. HP don't come with it anymore. it costs around $39.99 to do it if you don't have the time to do it your self. it does require you to sit in front of the computer for 3 hours.
you can bring it in the store for them to optimize it for you because usually out of the box, manufactures put a lot of demo useless trial software and advertisement software on the computer that just take up a lot of memory space. also they can help tweak the registry on the computer to give you better performance than just "removing softwares"
