Re: Upgrade video card and power supply or upgrade my pc?

Looks to be in a external slot of which the monitor is already plugged into. I did however try to plug into the main board which is located near the keyboard, sound plugin and what not and I got no video there so I placed it back lower.

OK, so it sounds like what you have is a machine that has built-in video on the motherboard, PLUS an add-in card.  Most motherboards disable their onboard port when an add-in is detected, what you describe is consistent with this.

So in your case, it seems like you're set:

Open case, remove power supply and install upgrade one.

Remove existing add-in video card and install the upgrade

Power on the machine and install drivers for the new card

Start gaming!
