Sound Card for laptops?

Hi. Sorry if this question has been asked before, I cannot find it. I have an Acer aspire 5570-2997, 1.73 ghz, 2GB DDR2, 160 GB HDD, intel graphics media accelerator 950, windows vista 32 bit home premium. I use my laptop to record music, and am wondering how I can upgrade my sound card. I know for a desktop you just pull the old sound card and put a new one in. How do these work on laptops? How much do they cost? Are they worth the $? Again, I'm sorry if this is a stupid question and the answer is easy to find, I cannot seem to find it. Thanks for you help, Billy.
