Hey Elizabethj,
Admittedly, I'm not a computer expert. However, I would definitely start by taking a look at our student deals. There are some great options for savings. Follow this link to check it out! It highlights some of the options, as well as giving directions for how to sign up for the deals. Hope this helps!

Many of the laptops with a newer generation i5 processor brings near XBOX 360 Quality gaming without breaking the bank.
Intel's HD graphics technologies have evolved since the early days of integrated graphics so in the end you will be getting a quality product without all the questions of asking yourself if this is good or not.
There are some other good laptops from Best Buy on sale for $249 now and then and these entry level devices would be perfect for light tasks but more importantly your school work.
Did you see the Black Friday in July sale? It's pretty impressive right now.
Just my 2 cents that's all.

If you ask for model, then I recommend you to buy a Sony Vio Laptop.
