I was wondering if Mozilla Firefox can be installed on and is compatible with the "netbooks" that are no available.  Also, what does a laptop have that a netbook does not have?

Re: Netbooks

Hi rebekola!

There is a great deal of variety, both in price and in capability, of netbooks available on the market.  The main thing that they all have in common is that they are smaller (some significantly) than traditional laptops. That being said, depending on brand and price there are varities in processor speed, storage space, operating system, included software, etc. The list goes on and on.

To answer your first question you will need to know a couple of things about the netbook that you may be looking at. First, which operating system does it have? Mozilla Firefox is currently compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac OS. Second, you will want to know how much storage space is available. You can find netbooks with as little as 2GB and as much as 160GB. Firefox is only 71.MB, but if you only have 2GB to use, you will have to weigh whether or not you want to use any of that for another browser.

In general, the major difference between a traditional laptop and a netbook is the presence of a CD/DVD drive. Obviously, because of the smaller profile of the netbooks, including a CD/DVD drive is very difficult. However, you can always purchase an external drive to make up for this lack. Depending on which model you choose, you may also find that the battery life is not as long as a traditional laptop, but this is becoming less and less of an issue now that the 6-cell batteries are becoming available.

Ultimately, there is probably a netbook out there that is perfect for you. You will simply need to do some research (Or ask your smart friends at Best Buy!) to figure out which one that is.

Thanks for asking!
