The USB port on my Insignia USB NS-p08W7100 works to charge the device, but will not connect to any of the known good USB devices I attach to it. Checking it in device manager shows it as Com Port 1, but does not reflect any connections since the day the tablet was initially turned on. Is this a design limitation of the tablet or is the USB port defective?

Thank you for connecting with us here on the forum. In my experience, the Micro USB port on most Insignia™ tablets is only intended to charge the device, or in some cases transfer data to/from a regular computer. To truly test if this is a limitation of the USB port or a possible defect, I'd recommend connecting your tablet to a desktop or laptop computer and attempting to transfer a file. If that doesn't seem to do the trick, you may wish to contact Insignia™ Support at 1-877-467-4289.
