I have a 17 inch HP monitor and need a new cord. What should I buy?

It's going to depend on the monitor. Could be AC DC adapter with power cable. Could be the 3 prong power cables that are used for some monitors and power supplies/the ones that are also used for Xbox Power Brick. or are you looking for display cords/HDMI, DVI, VGA, etc.

Yes, more information should be needed.
If it's a power cord, most LCD monitors based on my experience use the standard cord a desktop uses so $3.99 will get you up and running. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dynex-6-ac-power-replacement-cable/7003128.p?id=1099391933483&skuId=7003...
If it's a VGA Cable, $3.99 will get you running again: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dynex-6-vga-pc-monitor-replacement-cable/7003182.p?id=1099391933657&skuI...
DVI CABLE: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-6-5-dvi-cable-black/5886131.p?id=1219169457192&skuId=5886131
(A little more in the pricey range)

It is just a cord on the back of the monitor that connects it to the CPU. It's the power cord.

As this is a small item your local store should have it in stock, you can always place an order online and have it ready for you in the store so there is no guess work into locating the item but the local store associates are always happy help you find stuff if you choose to just drive to your local store. Be sure to check online to see it's in stock before driving and remember inventory is an estimate online and not always a guarantee to be there in store.
