MacBook air

when I power on my laptop there's a file with a ? Flashing on the screen and that's it. What am I supposed to do?

This means that your startup drive and/or operating system cannot be located—AKA you don't have a working computer.

 

Apple has a support article on their website here that should help you get started rectifying the issue.
