Re: MacBook Pro 2012 ram question

Did you just update to Mac 10.11.6?

If it was starting fast and is not doing so now more ram probalby won't make a difference.

Your SSD should boot you up pretty fast.

I read some issues from other users about problems after updating to Mac 10.11.6

Re: MacBook Pro 2012 ram question

Both ram sticks no matter Mac or PC must have the same speed. Since it's an Intel processor being used now, if you have two ram sticks and they have different speeds, for compatibility reason, the lower speed ram stick downclocks the faster one if it supports it. If it does not, you will run into lots of problems.

Re: MacBook Pro 2012 ram question

Example :

Ram stick one has a 100mhz bus speed

Ram stick 2 has a 133 mhz bus speed.

If you use both, the motherboard is forced to downclock stick number 2 to 100mhz if it supports downclocking for compatibility reasons. This can open up a wide range of compatibility issues and a much slower computing experience. Both sticks should match types and bus speeds for maximum performance.
