Lenovo desktop - no sound

I just purchased this desktop:

Lenovo - 310S-08ASR Desktop - AMD A9-Series - 4GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive - Silver
Model:IDEACENTRE 310S-08 - 90G90068U
SKU:6291839

There is no sound.  Ran the "troubleshoot" feature and it says everything is working fine.  No sound from either tower or external speakers.  Suggestions?

Re: Lenovo desktop - no sound

Hard to say without seeing it, but most common cause would be a driver issue. Uninstalling and re-installing the audio driver can resolve a lot of similar issues.

I can't tell for sure, but it doesn't look like the computer has built-in speakers. Right-click on the audio icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and go to Sound Settings. What device is listed as the output device at the top? Do you have a pair of headphones you can try? Have you tried plugging the speakers into a different port on the front or back of the computer?

Though realistically, just bring it back to the store and have them test it. If it doesn't work for them either, swap it for a new one.

Re: Lenovo desktop - no sound

Hello RHondaMF,

As previously mentioned, uninstalling and reinstalling, as well as checking Windows Update for any driver updates, may fix the issues you're facing. However, if the unit is new and you don't feel comfortable diving this much into troubleshooting the issue then I'd suggest visiting the stores Geek Squad department to have it checked out or exchanging it for another unit.

Re: Lenovo desktop - no sound

I used to sell computers.  And troubleshoot such things.

Now this is a really basic set of questions and please don't take it poorly.

Are you sure you plugged the speakers wire into the proper jack?

Are the speakers powered? Do the speakers need to be plugged into an outlet or have batteries installed?

I know these are simple things but sometimes the answer.

Try this also.

Click on the Windows icon and search for

Change Sound Card Settings

Click on it.

Something similar to the below image should show up.  Try the different opens and set them as default.

Also open your volume Mixer.  (right click on the speaker icon and open the mixer)

For each application make sure it is not muted and slide the sound bar up and down.

Do you happend to have an HDMI cable plugged in.  Unplug it.
