Keyboard Replacement

I own an HP Pavilion Dv7-3000 and I broke my backspace button on my keyboard.

The rubber cap came off and I contacted HP about it and they said I needed to get the entire keyboard replaced but I no longer have a warranty with them.

Thus I would have to do it myself or have someone else do it for me.

I currently have the replacement keyboard on hand and all I need to do is remove the keyboard attached to my laptop and install the new one.

My only issue is that I break practically everything I try to fix.

So I was wondering if BestBuy would be able to remove and replace the laptop keyboard for me?

I did not buy the laptop at BestBuy but I have run out of options.

I don't want to result in replacing my entire laptop because of one key.

Re: Keyboard Replacement

Google how to replace a keyboard on your laptop. I had a dell and there were only a few screws that have to be removed.

http://h20574.www2.hp.com/?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN&lang=en&cc=US&hpappid=psml
.
From the above url ( HP Partner Services Media Library ), do the following;
.
1. Select Laptop and Tablet PCs in "Product Category".
2. Select HP Pavilion Notebook PCs in "Product Family".
3. Select HP Pavilion dv7-1000/2000/3000 Entertainment Notebook Series in "product Series". You need to figure out it is a 1000, 2000 or 3000 series from your own dv7.
4.After step 3 is selected, you should able to Media selection and additional resources for your dv7-1000/2000/3000 at the bottom of this url.
5. Select FRU remove/Replace. A new window should pop up " HP Service Media Library".
6. Select "Keyboard" to see the video and Keyboard removal procedures.
.
Since Notebook keyboard is quite different than the normal full desktop keyboard, it may not be easy to clean if the coffee got into the rubberized part of the keys.
.
Have fun....

Re: Keyboard Replacement

I have actually watched multiple videos and it looks fairly simple, but still I have a serious electronic illness when it comes to fixing things.

That's why I want to be safe and see if BestBuy will do it for me.

Re: Keyboard Replacement

From reading all the problems with GS, not sure if I would trust BB. Is there not a PC repair place around your house? It would more than likely be cheaper.

Re: Keyboard Replacement

Geek Squad would most definitely be able to replace that keyboard! Just bring it into any store to get an estimate!

Re: Keyboard Replacement

Approximately how much would it cost for Geek Squad to replace the keyboard for me?

Re: Keyboard Replacement

Hello Roseane,

Sorry to hear that you have a broken key on your DV notebook.  I've encountered customers who have easily replaced their own notebook keyboard.  However, it you are even somewhat fearful of doing so, I would strongly follow Redwyw's advice and take your notebook to the Geek Squad, especially since you ask:

"So I was wondering if BestBuy would be able to remove and replace the laptop keyboard for me?
I did not buy the laptop at BestBuy but I have run out of options."

Re: Keyboard Replacement

I actually called my local best buy today and was informed that it would cost about $60-100 to just put in the keyboard for me.

I already spent so much money for the replacement itself and now I would have to pay someone $60-100 for them to put it in.

I think I'm going to take the risk of replacing it myself.

Thank you to everyone for answering ^^
