Not more than 2 years ago I bought an HP omen x. I’ve had quite a few issues with this laptop and am now stuck. Whenever I plug it in, it claims it’s charging although the it really not. The pc is currently dead so I can’t even enter the settings on it. Can anyone help me with this?

Also, the pc is no longer under warranty.

take a really close look at the end of the charger, there is a tiny center pin that tends to get bent or broken off. that what the laptop uses to determin its the correct charger. 

also the fancier omen type laptops use LiPo batteries, if they stay dead for to long they will not charge back up and would need replaced.

Hello, JackD1333,

It's very unfortunate to hear that your Omen X has seemingly gone dead. While it is not common, especially for a unit that is only about 2 years old, it can happen depending on use. That being said, I would suggest starting with the power cable. While it may show that it's charging, the charger may not be providing the level of power the unit needs to properly operate. Second, I'd look into the battery. While the unit should power up on the power cable alone, even if the battery is depleted, the battery combined with issues with the power cable could be causing issues. If the above proves to be unsuccessful, I would begin to consider bringing into our Geek Squad agents so they can run a diagnostic and ensure it's not something on the logic board or with the power supply itself.

Hey, thanks so much for the suggestions. So far I’ve only tried a different power cable, uninstalling and reinstalling battery drivers, and taking out the battery and putting it back in. Currently my pc is dead it’s self and I haven’t looked at a new battery yet. The first time I took out the battery and plugged it in, nothing happened. However I’ll try it again. Thanks for the suggestion!

If it dowsnt even turn on with the battery unplugged and the cord plugged in, (and there is a light glowing by the plugged in cord) it's more then likely a motherboard failure. Unlike chromebooks and tablets, it shouldn't need the battery to turn on.

I would likely say it is a pin issue as well. This is generally one of the more common issues with such a symptom. If the laptop has a battery ( I think I read you said you took out a battery) you could try replacing the battery.

Just for clarification, can you run off of AC power being plugged into the wall instead of the battery?
