Dell Dimension PC - amber light blinking - test power supply unit?

[ Edited ]

My PC has a blinking amber light. I'm told that it is my power supply unit.  Is it possible to get the power supply unit testing at Best Buy and if it is bad, to be replaced with a new power supply unit?

Please advise.

Thanks!

Sherri

Why pay someone to replace your power supply?  Never mind...stupid question.  I forget that not everyone in the World works on their own computers.  I apologize.  Who told you that it is your power supply and where is the blinking amber light?  Computers are different.  Please elaborate.  As for having Best Buy test the power supply and replace if it is bad, yes, they can.

the 2nd option you were taking about buying a new power supply.. it is easy to repace once you have it but the hard thing is finding one that will work with your computer... i recomend going to n e w e g g . c o m  ( i hope they dont delete that)

it is a 8400 Dimension PC.  The blinking amber light is the power light in the front of the computer.  The manuel said it could be a power supply issue.  Is there somewhere else I should take it to get it tested or is Best Buy okay?

Best Buy should be fine.  If that is what your manual says, then that is the likely cause.  I was just trying to verify what you were saying in your original post before going into much detail.

Try this first, power off your PC, unplug from AC outlet, remove all usb peripherals (not including mouse and keyboard of course, but if they are plugged to an USB extension ports, directly connect them to your PC USB ports).

Plug PC to wall outlet (do not use surge suppressor at this time), power on your PC.....if it doesn't work, you need to have your PSU checked then.
