I need to get a new computer. I currently have a 2015 15" Macbook. I am out of storage and don't have much more I can get rid of on here. It's also pooping out on me more frequently and gets VERY hot often. I need to get a PC to install and run some software for academic purposes, and Linux appeals to me for many reasons. I also like to make a lot of music. I am completely foreign to the linux world so I really don't know how to dissect through all the different considerations on my own.
Does anybody have a good, cost effective suggestion for me?

Do you have a set budget in mind?

Before you go to far down the Linux path you should see if the software you want to use is available on Linux.
While I do feel Linux is a superior operating system, it would not be fully utilized by the majority of users. And you would need to learn a programming language to make the most of it.
If you comfortable with your MacBook and the software you use is currently Mac compatible, I would suggest looking to a new MacBook Air
