Computer Locked up

Hi all,

I have a Compaq Presario and I just added 1GB Ram, had replaced the Power Supply around 2 months ago. When I added newRAM my power supply just started running and running non stop. I then unplugged everything opened tower and pulled new ram out and the comp would not come on just black screen. I tried several times moving the memory sticks around and now when I turn on comp I get purple plaid design across my monitor. HELP I have things I never backed up and now can't get it to come on. (Also I before this I went into MSCONIF, and made sure things were nto running in background I hit disable all OPPS) could this cause the problem now? How do I get back to the way it was?

Thanks

Jo

Re: Computer Locked up

computer locking up can be casued by bad hard drive, bad cpu, bad memory.

to solve this problem correctly i recommend bring it into geek squad and have them do a hardware diagnostic. unfortunately they will charge you $69.99, but at least you be able to find whats REALLY wrong with it.

you can ask us, and we will give you 5 different reasons, and you are going to be spendning money here and there wihtout really fixing it in the end.

Re: Computer Locked up

DO NOT take it to the geek squad.   My experiences with them have been very bad.

You can go to the message options on the right and hit "report abuse to a moderator" and maybe get it removed.

As far as the computer goes, I would take it into best buy and have them look at it.  You might have discharged static into the computer ruining a component, or it might be the ram was not the correct type of ram to be used in the computer.

Was the computer under Best Buy's service plan?  If it was just the manufactor's warrenty, they may not cover it anymore.
