Re: Bluetooth adapter NS-PCY5BMA driver installation difficulties

I am happy to report that I resolved my problem of:

Stalling at device validation (infinitely)

I turned off my Windows Firewall and MS SecurityEssentials real time protection, rebooted and it passed validation and downloaded and installed the necessary software.

I am not especially tech savvy, so I do not know which was obstructing the task, or both.

It was just a hunch, and I cannot say this will work for anyone else. Technically, scientifically speaking, I can't even say for certain there is any association.

I sure hope so. It was awful frustrating. The setup includes a small suite of other software apparently aimed at providing easy interface to configuration, tweaks and various popular app/program compatibility.

My environment:

• PC (HP Compaq Presario CQ5500Y) Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, AMD Sempron 145, 2.8 Ghz, 2GB RAM, (an old and humble machine)

• No previous Bluetooth software or devices

• Installation was initiated under fresh reboots with no other user apps running in Administrative account

• Reason for purchase: needed to connect my new Plantronics BackBeat GO 2 earbuds, bought with this Bluetooth adapter to connect PC, mostly for wireless listening.

Presently, this seems to be working. An 'trouble' indication is noted in the Windows Devices Manager for the Earbuds, not the adapter, indicating a missing driver for the earbuds, yet all seems to be working well so far (not sure a driver for earbuds exists). The earbud inline mic appears to be working also and all is connected, however I still have to refine some system mic recognition trivia nce threre is enough charge to do it.

What did NOT work for me in resolving this was turning on Windows Update, and Windows Driver search returned no available drivers for it of its own.

Once validated, it took oddly long to download the suite of software; 10 minutes on a 3 Mbps downstream connection. However the progress bars were advancing, if slowly, the whole time. Since then I have turned the MS Security Essentials and Firewall back on without issue.

The ancillary software, processes, tasks and services seem nominal and not intrusive. After the EULA, there was no gimmicks, sales pushes, requests for personal info, junkware etc. Just the small software suite encapsulating the driver, presumably for ease of use, interface and access to configuration and compatiblity.

I admit I joined to share my own angry rant, (wonderng what is so hard about delivering a driver) but kept picking at the OS to see if I could produce a solution. It didn't make sense to me to think such a popular basic device was inherently flawed or that the company would abandon customers needing drivers. They appear to be well established, and most others have no problem. I had to assume it was on my end somehow. It was frustrating not knowing why. Perhaps the nature of the device's intended use requires more than just a simple driver for compatibility ease and considerations.

I don't know why it worked for me, and I hope it may help someone else, and sympathize for others who have had this issue. Hopefully it sheds some light for users and Insignia, something to offer others with the problem of the set-up stalling at "Validating Device" infinitely.

I am grateful that it works. A good week to all and be blessed.

Tried turning off Windows Firewall etc., but still didn't work for us.

Re: Bluetooth adapter NS-PCY5BMA driver installation difficulties

Did you try turning off  your Anti-virus / real-time anti-virus while executing the set-up?

I am not sure which worked for me, but when I turned off the firewall and my Antivirus (MS Security Essentials, in my case) it passed validation immediately.

I know its frustrating. When someone buys something they want a nice, peaceful, fast installation with no worries, and this issue can be a real let down. No one wants to fight with their pc or spend 20 minutes searching online for something so simple.

I hope it starts working for you. I wish we had a bit more concern from Insignia here too, to offer some support.

Perhaps if you share your OS version, firewall and AV, maybe someone could help troubleshoot. It may be none of those things though, because I dont know the mechanics of why it failed for me originally and then why it worked when I disengaged the FW and AV. I should add that I did clear out all temp files, the usual sweep, and restart before executing the set up when it worked for me.

As I noted earlier, I am on Windows & Ultitmite, and just using their FW and the MS Security Essentials AV. I did futz with the WIndows Update too, which I normally have off completely, but it didn't seem to help at all. When I was successful, it was still off cuz I dont like auto updates.

Re: Bluetooth adapter NS-PCY5BMA driver installation difficulties

First of all, it's not a question of the downloaded driver from broadcom.com working or not.  It's apparently not inluded in the installation package, and it's not available to download and install as a stand-alone.

Second of all, your product states it is compatible with Windows 7.  I have tried installing on my PC, and my laptop, both running Windows 7 Professional, one a HP, the othe a Dell.  The only "customizations" that have been done are regular Windows updates from Microsoft. I've temporarily disabled firewall protection while installing.  I still get the following error description:

Compatibility issue between a Bluetooth service and Windows
A service associated with a Bluetooth enabled device isn't compatible with this version of Windows. This service might not be required for this device to work properly.   (none of my bluetooth devices will connect, phone, tablet, speakers, headset)

This is by no means the first time I've ran into snarky hardware and have had to wrestle with drivers.  But with all other issues I've had with other products, I've been able to locate stand-alone drivers to install from the companys site, from Microsoft, or through driver detection software.

Not so with your bluetooth adapter

Hello mikhigg,

Thank you for responding!

I do apologize that you are having installation issues. It is not so much a case of being cavalier, as the largest percentage of these install fine when Windows pulls a generic driver. If Windows does not, and the Driver that we make available on our download page do not function, there is something with the OS that is not accepting that. Unfortunately because computer Operating Systems are so customizable and adjustable, beyond the basic troubleshooting, trying other adapters or specialized computer support may need to be inquired with.

Re: Bluetooth adapter NS-PCY5BMA driver installation difficulties

I was having this same issue after buying this yesterday until I tried some stuff on my PC that resolved the issue for me, hopefully my solution will help others, especially those running Norton Internet Security (the apparent cause of my problems):
First up, the laptop I bought this for is an old Gateway P-Series (late-2000s) running Vista Home Premium.

Here's how I fixed my problem:

1-follow the link in the instructions to download the software.

2-download and save the file, DO NOT run it yet!

3-if you're running Norton, find and right-click the file, then click on "Norton File Insight".

4-when the File Insight box comes up, find and click the link that says "Trust Now". You may have to click a similar link once more.

5-once the file shows as trusted, go back and run the SetupBtwDownload file. Now it should work.

6-click through the screens. Wait until prompted to plug in the adapter.

7-When/if Windows pops up messages about finding driver software or security prompts just click through them and let the installer run, it may take a little while and clicking through several prompts.

Hopefully this helps, it seems the problem for most people with setting this up may actually be their internet security software and needing to tell it the file is trusted first, especially if you're running Norton. Also I disabled my firewall during the downloading just in case and re-enabled it once the download was complete, it didn't affect the installing. You should not need to turn anti-virus off to download or install it.

Re: Bluetooth adapter NS-PCY5BMA driver installation difficulties

Windows 7 here too.  Insignia Bluetooth cannot be installed. Same error message.  Followed directions. Turned off firewall and virus protection. Followed hints.  No luck.  It's 2015, I should not be having this type of install problem.  Everything else installs perfectly. Sounds to me like Insignia has a software problem.    Returning it to Best Buy tomorrow.  Going to buy another company's Bluetooth product.

Re: Bluetooth adapter NS-PCY5BMA driver installation difficulties

The Broadcom software our device works with is not recognized by many different virus protection brands.
Some even see it as potentially harmful, and will stop it from installing.

My best recommendation would be to temporarily disable or turn off the protection before downloading and installing the software.
Many brands of virus protection even have a feature where you can disable them for a set amount of time. Do this first before downloading the software. Before installing it you might also temporarily disable your computer's Firewall, but you can get around that by running the .EXE install file as an administrator. To do this on Windows 7, you simply right click on the file and selet the option marked by a blue and yellow shield symbol.

Unless there is something else blocking it on the computer, it should install with no difficulties. This is software that is compatible with all current versions of Windows so I don't expect there to be any issues unless security software decides that it is a threat.

Re: Bluetooth adapter NS-PCY5BMA driver installation difficulties

Yes, I too am having an issue with my bluetooth adapter. I plugged it in and it would not install the drivers (no other drivers currently on my computer). I looked and received error code number 28. What can I do to remediate this problem?

Re: Bluetooth adapter NS-PCY5BMA driver installation difficulties

Hello brfe0667,

Welcome to Community@ Insignia™!

Is  the adapter you have the same as the one listed in the thread title? What operating system are you using?

You can click the link below to download the driver. Once you are on broadcomm's website, you will want to click the second downloadable item. This will install the Windows driver. If you continue to have issues, be sure to try multiple USB ports.
