Best Buy wants to charge me $100 to look at my laptop, is there an alternative?

There's something wrong with my laptop, and it's causing it to overheat and drain the battery, even when nothing is running. The dude at best buy says that they charge 100 dollars to run diagnostics on it, and it could take one to two days. That cost won't even cover actually fixing it, that's just for MAYBE finding the problem. Is there a cheaper way to do this? I'm a college student so I'd rather not spend that much, and it needs to be done since I literally cannot go half of a class without my laptop's battery going from 100 to 0 percent. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey there, tribangen,

Welcome to the Best Buy Forums!

Thanks for taking the time to reach out. As a former college student, I can understand how paying $100 for a diagnostics on your device can be a little steep. I would be happy to assist you where I can. Currently, we do offer a Total Tech Membership to our customers. That membership cost $200 and includes many of our in store services at no additional charge to you including diagnostic and repair on computers. The membership does not cover any parts for the repairs, but it would save you some money and a piece of mind considering it last an entire year. In addition to the repair and diagnostics being included with that membership, you would also be able to use it for other services such as: Data Backup, Hardware install, Virus Removal, etc. You can click the blue link to our Total Tech Membership page where you can learn more about the services that are included for free in store and in home.

Please feel free to ask any additional questions!
