Acer Monitor X193W aspect ratio

I just connected our monitor to our new desktop PC running Windows XP Pro. I've loaded CorelDraw 12. However, when working in CorelDraw 12, the page indicated in the Corel workspace looks square as opposed to a vertical retangle proportional to a sheet of paper. It's ratio is not correct. What must I do to correct this?

Also, when we are just at the Windows Desktop, the bottom bar text is a lot smaller...

Thanks

What kind of cable are you running, what are the dimensions of the monitor, and what resolution are your displaying?

Re: Acer Monitor X193W aspect ratio

I'm using the usual video cable.  I don't have a receptacle for the other cable that has a plug with two sets of nine pins and one flat pin.  (Sorry, I don't know the name of that one.)  19" diagonal, approx. 16" wide by 10" high.  1440 x 900 resolution.

I hope you're not going to tell me I need a special video card.  The old 5+ year old PC it was connected to didn't have one.

Thanks,

Lisa

Re: Acer Monitor X193W aspect ratio

My initial suspicion was that your cable wasn't capable of supporting the resolution you were attempting to run.  It sounds as though that isn't the problem, though.

I just noticed something else in your initial post that might be a clue.  Could you say some more about this phrase: "the bottom bar text is a lot smaller."  Smaller than what?  Does the "bottom bar"refer to the task bar to which one minimizes windows?  Could you give a bit more description?

Re: Acer Monitor X193W aspect ratio

Smaller than they were when this monitor was connected to the previous XP desktop.  (It was 5+ years old and giving us some trouble.  Hence, the replacement.)  Yes, bottom task bar where the Start button is on the far left side.

I'm wondering if I need updated drivers.  Even if I download new driver(s), I'm concerned about the method of installing them...

Thanks for your assistance!

Re: Acer Monitor X193W aspect ratio

weird, I know when I edit video on my computer I have to set it to square pixils even though the video and my monitor are widescreen resloutions, the camera I used created square pixils.  This was hard to find in adobe premiere.
