32 vs 64 bit vista

I'm considering getting vista and installing the 64 bit version. Has anyone had any trouble with the 64bit version. Thanks.

Re: 32 vs 64 bit vista

Are you a power user or a casual user? 64 bit is for power users who want to maintain strong compatability and 32 bit is for everyday users..

64 Bit cant run some programs like 32 bit can.

You can also have more ram running on a computer with 64 bit systems, such as mine which is using 4 gigs of ram.  Even for the casual user, the extra ram, especially on vista, helps.

32 bit has 32 lets sa slots that information can go in and out of and 64 has 64 slots...its basicly performance  64 = faster and more powerful..but 64 bit like 32 has copabilty issues..some programs will only run on a 32 bit

From personal use and experience, 64-bit versions of Windows Vista experiences errors a good deal more compared to its 32-bit counterpart. Compatibility may be an issue for some, but for most users it is a very minute issue.

Re: 32 vs 64 bit vista

all comes down to what software u use, make sure they're vista compatible AND 64 bit comaptible, check this before u install it. a lot of software out there are still not 64 bit compatible. they're beginning to now.

sometimes like work specific software may not even be 64bit compatible

Re: 32 vs 64 bit vista

Are all of you guys really using Vista?  If so, do you really like it?  I lasted less than a day before I yanked it off of my machine and went back to XP.  Trying to decide if I was just not giving it enough drive time before I yanked it.  I felt like it was really sluggish and I really hated a computer questioning if I really wanted to do what I was trying to do.  I also didn't like having to re-learn Windows.  I hated it when I had to use Office 2007 for the same reasons.

Re: 32 vs 64 bit vista

vista sux if u only have 2gb or less of ram.

if u have 2gb or less of ram i'd recommend to stay with xp.

vista is a memory eater. if u have 3gb or more of ram, vista should run with no problems.

i use vista because i am a gamer. it actually have something windows xp doesnt have, Directx 10, which improves the graphics by a lot from directx 9

Re: 32 vs 64 bit vista

Thanks.  I am not a gamer...I mostly use my PCs for work as a software consultant.  The software I work with is bloated so I have 3 gigs of ram on all of my machines.  I just really didn't like the feel of Vista.  It felt like an "air bubble moving through water" if that makes any sense!  Wasn't responsive or fast moving or anything.  I found it to be quite lackluster.  I think I'll stay with XP.  I have been thinking about moving to Server 2003 for my main machine which is my server.  Do you or anyone you know use it?

Re: 32 vs 64 bit vista

i know that server 2003 is actually pretty good, xp based i believe. if not, get the Windows 2000 Server. that's a pretty reliable os for a server.
