Re: need my cd player

I would like to get a post production CD player for my 2014 RAM truck as well.  Was told that all car manufacturers are going away from them.  My gripe is that to record them, you have to download them ont a flash drive, phone, or MP3 player.  CDs can be just loaded into a CD player.  They DID make some in a few early 2014 RAM trucks but no longer.  I have seen one company that makes them separate and can be placed under a seat or in the center console box.

fcrowder1949,

Not quite sure what you are referring to as a post production cd player, but im going to assume it was made for some of the 14 rams.  Would you be able to find a link of the post production model to see if that is something that we can install for you.  I don't see why it would be an issue, but to get a proper quote it would be nice to see what product you were looking at.

Re: need my cd player

man some of those that i saw were wicked expensive! i would personally recomemend just buying an aftermarket radio option and having us do the installation.  I am almost postivie that we can get you an installed aftermarked unit with multiple options such as front aux, bluetooth, cd and others.  saying that you do not have the 8.4 inch touch screen, you are in luck.  there is a bit of modifications that need to be made behind the subdash, but nothing that you would ever see.  i would call your local best buy and talk with an installer to get a more accurate quote, especially for the cutting behind the radio.

Either way im grateful that you took the time to write with us, and if you do end up going with that factory option we can also do that installation, but you would have to check with your installer doing the work to get the most accurate quote for that installation.  Best of luck!

Re: need my cd player

I take exception to the comment "weird that you still want CDs"  I have over a thousand CDs, and prabably close to a hundred audio books on CD that we listen to on long trips.  No way am I going to rip that many.  Plus, ripped MP3s are lower quality than their CD counterparts.

Re: need my cd player

NOT SOLVED!

I, too, want a cd player for use in my cd-playerless car. (I know, you millennials don't get it, but us baby boomers are, well, old.) Besides, in my case, it is NOT for music. When I commute, I like to listen to audio books taken out (free) from the local library and I, too, do not feel like going through the effort of ripping each individual cd (sometimes as many as 12 cds for one book) to my phone or to a usb flash drive. Every BB salesperson I've consulted with has suggested, like you, using the aux input in my car. BUT the car manufacturers are doing away not only with cd players, but also with aux inputs. Thus, so far NO solution has been found by anyone. I have a brand new car and I am NOT going to spend more money for an after-market system. PLUS the car has all that absurd touch screen electronics that cannot be replaced with an after-market audio system.

The only thing I can think of is: is there a portable cd player with anti-skip protection AND bluetooth capability that would allow the cds to be heard through the car's audio system in the same way that iphones can connect to the built-in audio wirelessly via bluetooth? Or do you have another method that has not been found by ANY of the thousands who, on the car forums, have the same unaswered need? If so, you will be a hero to all of us.

Thanks much!

Hello There joses-

Having the honor of being an Autotech with the company before this position, I had the unique chance of learning how to break down today’s technology in new ways everyday.  Being right on the edge of a millenial myself, I also had the chance to see the great advances in technology!  If there is a work around I pretty much have seen it, know about it, or can ask someone to fill me in on it!

You’ve pretty much hit the nail on the head yourself and it’s truly great to have you come to our forums to allow us the chance to help out!  Knowing a lot of these are battery operated, the only downfalls would be making sure your connecting Bluetooth Auxillary Adapter, has a power source.  If you could find one which suits your specific needs, and you don’t see yourself having an issue with about 4-8 hours of battery playtime, the Aluratek is my personal favorite.

Spread the word for any car audio questions, where many of our community members who reply to the Car, Marine, and GPS threads are active or retired Autotechs!  Let me know if these were not what you were hoping for, and I could explore some more options for your vehicle specific!

P.S. What is a CD? Smiley Wink

Re: need my cd player

Thanks for the prompt reply (and understanding of and empathy with this old guy's situation). Having just seen your response, I haven't had the time to try your proposed solution; but I will and then will respond further.

In the interim, a cd is a thin, round object that college men used to throw at each other on the campus quad in the hopes of attracting pretty women to talk to them. It rarely worked though, and that's why they're not used much today.

Good Afternoon joses-

I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in a very long time, thank you so much for that response, it really made my day!

After some digging around I think my generation, the younger portion, are picking up on the errors of the past.  I located the CD dimensions, and I believe they're are onto something by bringing back the vinyl.  As far as size goes, the flight times and surface area is far superior causing more “hits.” Smiley Happy

All kidding aside, I really do hope one of these simple solutions works out for you.  Keep me posted and I’m always happy to help out!  Have a great weekend!

Kindly,
