What kind of subwoofer should I get?

I was told by a car audio place that I need a subwoofer and amp to get the loud sound from my car without distortion when it's at max. I was quoted a price of $800 and but they said the better bet is the one that cost $1100 installed. I really don't want to spend that much. Something more in the $200-$300 range would be ideal. I want loud sound but I don't need heart stopping bass just heart skipping bass.

I have a 2012 Nissan Altima that has decent sound. I only use my phone (either my samsung galaxy S6 or my iphone 6 - the iphone's sound is much better through the aux cord). And sometimes just want it to be really loud but it gets very distorted if I have the car sound at max and the iphone at almost max.

I looked at the Kicker 10" Single-Voice-Coil 4-Ohm Subwoofer with Enclosure Model 10TC104 and the Pioneer GM 500W 2-Channel Amplifier Model GMA3702, to be installed by Best Buy.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: What kind of subwoofer should I get?

I am glad to hear that you are wanting to deliver the sound to your ears as the artists intended!  A subwoofer is imperative to everyday music now-a-days, without it you are really missing out on all that a song has to offer.  I am sorry to hear that you have gone to other places that are really running up the costs of the parts with installation, and it is my hopes that Best Buy can be your one stop shop with our Geek Squad Autotechs also!

$200-$300 is a very tight budget for a subwoofer setup, especially when you factor in the installation and amplifier.  I can get you as close to that as possible, but you may have to bump up your budget just a little bit.  The great thing about shopping at Best Buy is our MyBestBuy Credit Card, which allows you to spend our money first to get you what you want right away and not skimp by just because it was out of your budget at the current time.  We have great financing options that would allow you to pay off your setup over a promotional period, and it is my hopes that you can either get approved instantly online or in-store to allow you the flexibility to chose the best setup right away!

With that said, you have chosen a pretty great setup for what it sounds like you are wanting for your vehicle.  I also am happy to be of assistance to really keep you as close to your budget as possible especially since our MECP Certified Autotechs will be completing the installation.  WIth the subwoofer that you have chosen the kicker 10TC104, the pioneer amplifier would work out fine, but I have a better option for you that would supply the right RMS value and save you $100 instantly when you have us install it.  The kicker 300.1 when combined with CK4 amp kit and our installation you get a grand total of $299.97.  That means that if you were to purchase that package in store or online, out the door you would be (before tax of course) $359.96.  You would only need a few additional pieces to go with it, but I will supply what you need below!

Materials fee $5.00

kicker 300.1  $299.97

kicker 10TC104 $59.99

Line output convertor $14.99 (integration to factory OEM radios for aftermarket amplifiers)

Custom labor per 1/4 hour $24.99 (installation of the Line output convertor)

$404.94 before tax

I realize that this is quite a bit more, but you are saving about $100 dollars when you package it out with that kicker amp and the amp kit.  Should you want to schedule the appointment click HERE!  Please have all parts before scheduling though, I would hate for you to waste your time showing up for any parts that aren't in stock, and a rescheduled appointment would be needed.  Thank you for taking the time to join and ask such great questions, and if you need anything further please do not hesitate to let me know!

I am a CAR Geek Squad Autotech, but the views that I post are my own and not that of Best Buy.
