I understand I can use my cell phone. I would prefer to have a separate navigation system. I occasionally find myself on some backwoods roads so I'm looking for something that has good coverage but I also need something very reliable. So far I've heard Garmin is the way to go, but what do you guys think?

Thanks for joining us here on the community forums. Having a GPS while out in the country, with no signal, can be frustrating. You can check out a few of our units here, some have downloadable maps that do not require signal to read. These would be great while hunting in the middle of nowhere.

I have only ever had Garmin for GPS navigation outside of my cell phone and even 15 years ago it was spot on.
However, keep in mind you should look to see if your back woods roads are available for a car GPS before you make a decision.
Best Buy carries Garmin and Tom Tom. Both are considered good products.
You may want to consider one that has the capability of getting live traffic updates.
Most current Garmin devics do have the ability to get map updates from the Garmin Web site
