Great question and I could certainly understand why you’d be reaching out for my assistance with your newly installed Pioneer Deh-s4010bt. I believe I may have the answers you are looking for and I only wish to provide you with a response that helps answer why this issue is occurring.
Since your Apple device is not an iPhone, I’m afraid this may be the culprit. I had the chance to read through the entire Owners Manual to prove myself otherwise, and I even double-checked the installation manual to see if there were additional cables required to allow you these features. With apologies, I believe your iPod Classic may be limited to the options that are currently being provided.
Pioneer Electronics website further backs my suspicions. In all of the manuals there was not a mention of any connection besides iPhone and Android devices. They also state in their description: The receiver also includes the USB Auto Switch feature so when the phone is connected via USB the listener has the option to choose whether the receiver uses the phone as a source, or just charges the device.
Should this device not navigate the way were hoping, please know that the capabilities of your radio appear to be functioning as they should, but if you’d like to navigate with the way you’re wanting I’d recommend connecting a phone. If you have any further questions or need more assistance with this radio, please don’t hesitate to let me know!

Hello again Tmelly-
With so many radios going to multi-media format, App mode, and Bluetooth, the limitations of the iPod classic are unfortunate, but not unexpected as technology continues to progress. I'd welcome you to reach back out to your local Geek Squad installation bay to find a radio that works best for you, knowing that this radio will not support anything besides a phone, outside of what you're already able to control currently.
I wish there was better news for you, and please never hesitate to let us know if we can ever assist you with any other questions, comments, or concerns!
