I recently purchased a Pioneer FH-X730BS car stereo from Best Buy and had them install it. Everything is working well except the USB connection doesn't recognize my iPod Nano or my iPhone 6S. The USB connection does recognize a flash drive and I can play songs from the flash drive through the USB. But the USB doesn't recognize my iPod Nano or iPhone 6S. I can connect up my iPhone through the bluetooth and that works but it doesn't work through the USB. Any ideas?

I should also add that using a standard USB to lightening connector cable, the USB does charge my iPad Nano and iPhone but it doesn't recognize the iPod/iPhone to play music from the devices. So the cable is charging the units but not playing the music.

I will try these things. But before I do, I can see the iPod working and I can plug the mini jack into the mini connector on the car and that works.
The other thing is you didnt mention my iPhone 6. That ALSO doesn't work with the USB. That would make me think that this is a Pioneer issue not necessarily an Apple issue, NO?
Also do you know how to tell which generation of iPod nano I have?
Thanks,
John

Looked it up. I have a 7th generation iPod Nano

I tried the soft reboot of the iPod Nano and plugging it into the USB with the Nano playing. Neither worked. I also tried a soft reboot of my iPhone 6S. That also didn't work. So in both cases, Nano and iPhone, I can charge both with the USB connection but cannot play music from either one. The pioneer unit does not recognize that either are plugged into the USB connection.
Thanks,
John

Yes, I tried 2 different USB to lightening cords. I even ordered a Pioneer USB to Lightening Cord mentioned in the link below - CD-IU52, thinking maybe I had to use a Pioneer specific cable (grasping at straws here...). That will be here in a couple of days.

Also note in the link above, at the bottom of the page, they mention a firmware update. I haven't tried that yet.
