I have a 2011 Volvo XC90 and I'm looking to get my sound system upgraded. I talked with an installer and he recommended replacing my rear door speakers, getting a sub and a 5-way amp. Any advice on brand and model that would be excellent sound and a good value?

I am a big fan of Alpine Head units
Rockford Fosgate Amps and Polk Audio Speakers.
They have some reasonalby priced Alpine Head units. However, I just looked at them and they are iOS compatible. Not really certain if that means you can only connect a Apple Device to it for streaming. They do have USB inputs so you could just plug in USB drive with WMA or mp3 on it.
I have had several systems in my past but I was happiest with the Alpine and Rockford combination.

Bobberuchi has alot of good recommendations for you on a broader spectrum. Lets narrow down what you are wanting to do exactly. It sounds to me that you talked with the installer, and he recommended a setup that was good for you. Are your back speakers currently not working? how did the 5 channel amplifier come into play, during this conversation with the installer.
When customers say "systems" installers immediately start to thing full setups, indash radios, speakers, amp for subwoofers, 4 channel amp for the speakers, and whatever else they are wanting to add to that vehicle at the time. We have certain SKUs that are attatched with Service times, for me to be able to provide the closest information as possible, and a close to accurate quote as i can, i will need a bit more information.
Can you provide as close to possible the conversation that you and the installer had, i can usually get on the same brain wave as that installer. we try to stay as uniform as possible, but like candy, all installers have different tastes when it comes to sound, and brands also. I will try to provide you with the best possible options, and also look to save you some more money with our Every day offers, that the Connect Car department provides for our customers.
I am very grateful that you took the time to write with us on the Community forums, and am more than happy to assist you on your new "sound" adventure! Please fill in some more information for me, and i think i will be able to give you a very close to accurate quote, and time frames needed for this "system." Keep us posted, and always thank you for your patience!

Also, if you can give us any brands that you are more drawn towards that would help out greatly also!
