Garmin Nuvi 58LMT

I'm new to the tech world, have never owned a GPS or smart phone. Recently I've researched on CNET, this Best Buy Forum, Garmin and talked to friends. I'm considering the Nuvi model 58LMT because I want life time maps, traffic, 5" screen, and voice directions. I don't need HD or back up help. I can't tell from reading about other models if this is the better choice. I don't know if my 2002 Mazda has an energy source for powering it. Any advice appreciated.

Re: Garmin Nuvi 58LMT

Thoughts....

  • all vehicles have a 12v accessory plug.... not an issue
  • one feature I love on my Garmin is voice command.  Love how I adjust brightness and volume without taking my hands off the steering wheel.  I demand it on my next GPS.

  • do you have a need for a dashcam... some models now come with built-in forward facing cameras.

Re: Garmin Nuvi 58LMT

Thx. for reply and link.

Pls explain why I would want a dashcam.  A forward facing camera would show what I'm already seeing with my eyes as I drive?  I just want help finding places and not getting lost.  I don't need help driving.  I have avoided this kind of technology because it seems a distraction from paying attention to circumstances by oneself.

Do you have an opinion about the 58 series vs. other Garmins?  I think, for me, a screen size of 4.3"  isn't quite big enuf whereas a 6" would be too big.
