NS NAV01 - Power On always runs full boot sequence. Is this normal?

Every time I switch the NAV01 on it goes through a long initialization, loads the software, and brings up the "I agree" screen. All of my other GPS units (Garmin, Tom Tom, Navman) do this only once, after they've been idle for many days. After that, switching any of them on (for example, after stopping for lunch on a long trip) brings up the current map immediately.

Is this normal behavior for the Insignia?

Thanks.

Hello DD,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

Actually that would be normal behavior, that welcome screen and the "I Agree" warning one will be shown every time you turn on the GPS and cannot be changed. Once the system is up, you should be able to see the maps and your favorites.

If it was useful, and you liked it, Kudo it!

Thank you,

If I might add to what Gonzalo already told you:

Garmin, Tom Tom, and most of the other GPS units available these days run on top of Linux, or are their very own operating system.  The Insignia units actually run as an application in Windows CE.  Since it's Windows, you probably want your Insignia shutting all the way down on a regular basis.  This helps prevent lockups.

You always have the option of just not turning off your GPS.  But you'd probably burn out the backlight eventually.

Thanks very much for the reply. As long as that behavior is normal, I'm fine with it. And yes: rebooting Windows on a regular basis is a good idea!
