Network Device problems

I have a new Infocast and a Windows Vista PC and I think I have media sharing enabled on it correctly. Whenever I try to access pics or video from the PC from Infocast the following happens - I get a list or network devices and the PC shows up in the list. I click on it and an Opening Videos (or Pictures) progress bar appears. This stays on the Infocast screen for about 90 seconds. The progress animation does not move. Then the Infocast reboots. Help

Otherwse I love the device so far.

Re: Network Device problems

Hi 00r101,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

I have already forwarded your concern to our engineering team to do further research and try duplicate the issue you are experiencing.

Still I have some questions that would help us recreate the type of connection you are trying to establish:

1) What are the steps you have followed to activate "Media Sharing" in your PC?

2) What kind of router are you using to have the Wireless Network created and provide Internet access to both PC and Infocast? Brand and Model number if possible.

3) Is there any software from Windows Vista you are attempting to use to "Share" media with the Infocast? Possibly Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center?

We are going to look into this issue and get back to you but if you can provide this information it would really help us to dig more into the issue.

Hope to hear from you soon and if I have any news from our engineers you will be the first one to know.

Re: Network Device problems

Nicholas,

Thanks for the reply. I should have posted the "fix" a week ago when I figured out what was wrong. Turns out it was a Vista thing. I had an older XP box and was able to get the Infocast to share media from it. So there was nothing wrong with the Infocast (yeah!) I ended up finding a Windows Media Player HotFix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928788/EN-US/ and applying it to the Vista box. Problem solved!

Re: Network Device problems

I'm STILL having this same issue.  When I try connecting to my computer via wifi, the infocast lets me get as far as picking the folder on my computer that says "pictures or shared pictures".  Once I click on the pictures folder, the infocast sits there for a minute, then it reboots itself.  Help????  I can see my pictures through my xbox 360 via wifi, why can't I on this infocast????

I use Windows 7 with Windows Media player 12.

Re: Network Device problems

Hello Toneaero,

Welcome to Community@Insignia™!

I forwarded your comments to our engineers and received the following reply:

The exact behavior will depend on network and security settings for various flavors of Windows.  In some cases you will be able to navigate the folder structures quickly but pictures do not download quickly enough and Infocast times out while showing the message “Loading...”  One work-around is to configure the Infocast’s slideshow time duration to 30 seconds or more instead of the ten second default.  This can be done by touching the screen during the slideshow (while the message "Loading..." is displayed) and then touching the magic wand (star) icon to set the delay from that screen to 30 seconds.

Let us know your results!

John

Re: Network Device problems

I still have the same issue.

When I select network device, my computer that has photos shows up. When I select it it shows me a a few folders and then going through some selections, it reboots. What is needed on the computer for Infocast to read the shares ?

I am running Windows Vista and have the Infocast as an allowed device in Windows Media player.

Re: Network Device problems

I can't even get the infocast to see the other computers. Is there a more thorough users guide available. One that tells how to set up the shared folders for the different OS
