NS-DCC5HB09 video not loading to MAC

It seems several people have reported this problem:  When I down load to my MAC, all I get is sound.  What's the solution?

I have the latest Quicktime.  I cannot find drivers for MAC.

Please reasure me that buying your product was not a mistake.

Re: NS-DCC5HB09 video not loading to MAC

I wish that we could 'highlight' this problem so that maybe one of the insignia people can take care of it.  I just bought this camcorder yesterday, thinking of all the cool videos I could take to put together a video resume to send to employers near and far- yet all I get is sound too.  I have a mac and the recent quicktime as well.  I saw on another post that if you insert the mini dvd it has software on there to correct the issue- but i have a MacBook, and it doesn't have the tray that pops out of the side of the computer.  Therefore, if i tried to put the mini dvd in it will get stuck, and cost a trip to GR to get it out.

So Insignia- How do mac people fix this?  is there something that we can download for it, and can you give us the link?

Re: NS-DCC5HB09 video not loading to MAC

Hello bandmaster,

Welcome to Community @ Insignia™!

I  reviewed the owner's manual and this camcorder outputs avi files encoded in Xvid.  If you do not have the Xvid codec loaded on your Mac, the video will not be displayed and you will hear only audio as you describe.  Your solution is to download and install the Xvid codec which can be located via an internet search.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
John

Re: NS-DCC5HB09 video not loading to MAC

Mac Issue on my Macbook (plain jane white variety) and how I resolved it.

There was no problem when plugging the Insignia into my Macbook using the supplied USB cable - the camcorder came up as a Drive on my Desktop and when opened, displayed the AVI, jpeg, WAV and mp3 files that were stored on the SD card. Opening IMovie and Importing the AVI files was not a success however. After the converting took place, I was left with black frames that played the audio - - - there were no video images. Searching on the web turned up several solutions which unfortunately did not resolve my issues initially. I even tried opening the individual files in a favorite VLC player (has most codecs) to see how they would display and this time I saw the video images but there was no sound.

Finally I came upon a suggestion to download to codecs - xVid and Perian - - - and everything now works. I am able to add the AVI files to my IMovie app and they convert properly (although they take some time - more I suspect than it took to capture the files at real time from my MiniDV camcorder). At least it works and  I have been able to create edited movies from the INSIGNIA HD Files and ham starting to upload them to Vimeo.

The 2 codecs that resolved my Macbook (OS X 14 +) issue are here:

Perian download - www.perian.org/
xVid download - www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25128

Hope this helps my Mac friends with the same or similar issues

Re: NS-DCC5HB09 video not loading to MAC

I've been able to view the AVI files with Quicktime by loading the Codecs you recommend, but I can't get iMovie to open these files.

What version of MacOS and iMovie are you using?

Thanks!

Re: NS-DCC5HB09 video not loading to MAC

To get iMovie to import these files, they need to be reencoded - iMovie works with a very limited range of formats. I've been converting mine to mp4 files using h.264 video encoding, which is supported by iMovie.
