Battery Q's

Battery questions on the Insignia 3.0" Camcorder;

Any first time charging suggestions?

How long does a full charge take?

How many minutes of HD recording will a full charge allow?

Can additional batteries be purchased?

Can the Camcorder be used while charging?

Thanks!

Re: Battery Q's

Hello Archee,

Welcome to the forums!  Those are great questions and here are your answers:

You should allow the battery to charge for six full hours the first time.  On subsequent chargings, the indicator will show fully charged after three hours.  You should be getting 1.2-1.4 hours of HD recording time on a full charge according to our technical team who tested the unit.   Additional batteries can be purchased; they are manufactured by Digipower, model number NP-60.  The unit can be used while charging.

I hope this helps!

Re: Battery Q's

That's exactly the data that I wanted to know.  Insignia would be well served to pop it into their manual.

One more question.  When I tore my camcorder out of the blister pack and plopped the battery in, it already had about half a charge on the battery.  Is this normal?  Or did I get a 'repackaged unit'?  I used it for a short time, then did do a full charge as you suggested.  I hope this didn't shorten my battery life.

Again, thanks much for the good info.

Re: Battery Q's

Hello again Archee,

I appreciate your suggestion about including the battery details in the manual and will see that it's passed along.

In my experience, products with rechargeable batteries are shipped with the battery partially charged.  I like that myself as it gives me the immediate gratification of being able to use my new equipment (like you did) before I have to give it up for the few hours needed for a full charge.

Regards,
John

Re: Battery Q's

What is the secret to using the camera while charging?  I cannot turn on the camera while charging.

wingnut,

Welcome to Community@Insignia!  Have you tried plugging it in after it is already on?

Re: Battery Q's

I have turned on the camera, when I plugged in the cord, the camera shut down and  opened the dialog box on my computer to explore.  I even started recording before plugging in and the dame thing happened.  Any other ideas?

Can you let me know the exact model number of your device?

Re: Battery Q's

I may be misreading this problem, but my understanding is that you cannot 'charge' and 'hook to the computer' at the same time (using the usb port anyway, since both actions use the same port).  Remember, hooking to the computer does NOT charge the camcorder.  To use the camcorder while charging would mean to plug from the wall to the camcorder usb port, then record or snapshot, etc.

I haven't tried this yet as it limits your range to cord length, but it still might be handy in an emergency.

Hope this helps.
