Why don't you just buy a webcam?

Hi pls,
It is possible to use a camcorder as a webcam, and from what I've heard you get a lot better results by doing this. The main reason for the better results is that most camcorders capture their footage at the rate of 30 frames per second (the standard for TV viewing), but most webcams capture video at the rate of 15 fps. The more individual frames that are captured in a specific amount of time the smoother your video will look, but this is assuming that the video will be displayed at the same rate that it was captured.
With that being said it isn't nearly as easy to use a camcorder as a webcam, and you might be better off just purchasing a high-end webcam rather than trying to get this to work for you.
If you do want to try this you will need to get a camcorder with a firewire output, and your computer will also need to have a firewire input. If your computer doesn't have a firewire input you will need to get an adapter that converts one of you computers inputs to a firewire input, or hard install a firewire input into your computer. You of course will then need a firewire cord capable of connecting the camcorder and the computer. Lastly, you will need a program that allows you to use a camcorder as a webcam. There are a number of programs that make this possible, but unfortunately we don't sell one of these programs. I would suggest searching the internet for "Using a camcorder as a webcam", and you should get numerous suggestions.
I hope this helps!

Most webcams actually do record at 30FPS. Buying a camcorder only for a webcam is overkill, kind of like using a backhoe to plant your garden.

It would cost you far more money to do what you think you might be able to do than to simply do what already works for everyone else. Go out and buy a high-end webcam.
