Re: astrophotgraphy camera question

To clarify....what is your budget?

What do you think about a D7100 with a Telescope mount?  Also research if the weight too much for your telescope motor?

Re: astrophotgraphy camera question

The Orion option appears to be much simplier.  The sample images on flickr look good too.

Re: astrophotgraphy camera question

I don't have experience with the Orion, so I recommend you continue your research.

DSLR's offer a larger sensor to yield better image quality.  They also offer a view finder, something the Orion does not offer.  However, the price, weight, and your telescope motor would not support it.

Re: astrophotgraphy camera question

  • You will not find a new DSLR for under your $300 budget.
  • The D7100 is the best all around consumer DSLR
  • The D3200 is most affordable Nikon
  • A DSLR will need a Telescope mount.  You need to research the cost for your telescope.
  • the challenge is whether your telescope motor if it can support the DSLR's weight
