Hey nmettler303,
To be honest with you there won't be much difference in shooting video between the Canon Rebel T6 DSLR and the Canon Rebel SL1. The biggest difference between these two models is the SL1 has a partially Aluminium body, while the T6 has a polycarbonate body; this should mean the SL1 will be more durable. The SL1 has a faster processor.
When it comes to video the SL1 has a microphone port, while the T6 does not; using an external microphone should produce much better audio results than the built in microphones on these cameras. The SL1 also has more options as to what Frames per Second the camera can be set to when shooting video. I hope this helps.
Thanks,

To be real honest if video is your main concern get a good video camera.
Shooting video with your DSLR is simple. You just switch over to motion mode and point your camera at something beautiful or interesting. But, if you want to get serious about shooting motion, having the right gear will really help you out.
These include better
Microphone
Some type of Steadicam setup at the least
Best done with dedicated cinema lens read up on these its just not the lens some other assessors will be needed.
This is if you are really looking to do video with a DSLR body, if you just want to capture an occasional video you may be OK but a dedicated video camera for true video will be better unless your willing to invest in the needed cinema accessories that go wit the setup.
