Nikons factory warranty is 1yr on the body, 1 yr on the lens. You can buy a 2yr one from Nikon.
I just usually recommend people avoid grey market gear (Nikon bodies/lenses meant for sale in other countries but ended up being sold in the US). Too many issues if you need a repair. Usually means finding an independant shop to fix it since Nikon USA wont touch it.

Look at your gear. If it hs Nikon USA printed on it then it is a valid USA Nikon and eligable for warrenty service. If it does not then you have to make arrangements to ship it to Japan.
What you are referreing to is what Nikon calls gray market. They may or may not be authentic Nikon products but they are brought via nefarious channels into the US and sold less expensive.
If the link above does get removed do a google search for
what are gray market products nikon

Hey RobertFreeman,
The responses you received previous to this reply are accurate. I just wanted to point out that all cameras/lenses sold by Best Buy come with a full U.S. manufacturer warranty, and in almost all cases that is a one year warranty.
Thanks,
