Can I buy lenses for a digital SLR  in the store ( @ best Buy) ?

Hey TechGirl,

Best Buy® definitely sells lenses for DSLR cameras in our stores, but without knowing exactly what camera you need a lens for it would be impossible to tell you if we carry the lens that will meet your needs. The DSLR lenses that we do carry in our stores are Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Sony, and Tamron lenses. Our selection on BestBuy.com is much more extensive, and also includes lenses made by Pentax, and Sigma. Tamron and Sigma are lens manufacturers that make lenses that fit all the major camera manufacturers DSLR’s. I hope this helps out!

Allan thanks for your answer it was every helpful. Here are some more details that be able to answer your questions in your rely to my question.:

I don't know what kind of digital camera im getting yet but I know that I want to get a digital SLR .

I want the most digital zoom or Optical zoom  possible on a digital SLR.  What is a good camera make to go with = cannon , Sony , nikon , Olympus , Panasonic? I guess the question would be which takes better pics ? Which last the longest? Well here's what I'm gonna be mainly using the camera for :

Im taking pictures of a my church's' new building being built & I have to stand at a kinda far distant to take the pictures I need a good DSLR that can zoom in & get a clear pic with out the blur.  Do u think I would have to buy a zoom lens?

Hey TechGirl,

All of these manufacturers make a quality product, and when it comes to DSLR cameras you can hardly go wrong these days. As far as what brand you should go with all I can suggest is go and try them out. Everyone of these manufacturers make a DSLR that would perform great in the described shooting conditions, and a lot of time it just comes down to what feels good in your hands.

When shooting subjects that are far away you have two choices, either get closer to the subject, or get a telephoto lens. Your choice of lens really depends on the camera you buy, but as a general rule I would suggest to start off with an all-in-one zoom lens such as an 18-200mm lens. By the way on DSLR's there is no such thing as a digital zoom, it is all done by optics.

As I always suggest to someone looking at purchasing a new camera, especially a large investment like a DSLR, quality of construction far outweighs any other consideration. If properly taken care of DSLR cameras can last you a lifetime. The main difference between an entry level DSLR, and a professional DSLR is mainly in how the camera is constructed. Hi Allan - can you help me with a lens purchase?  I have a Canon Rebel and I want to buy a zoon lens and I am looking at Tamron's.  I am confused by the differences in all the wording and symbols used. 

Here is what I am looking at;

AF18-250mm F/3.5 - 6.3 XR Di-II LD (IF) Macro - Model AO18

AF18-200mm F/3.3-6.3 XR Di LD - Model AHOY

AF28 - 200MM F/3.8-5.6 XR Di (IF) Macro - Model AO31

What is the difference in Did (IF) and Did and Di (IF) - I'm so confused!
