So, I went out of town for a wedding and had my Canon Power Shot A720 IS camera stolen - or lost, but let's not blame me! Total bummer! Anyway, the camera was a gift from my dad and I'm trying to replace it, but I realize it's an old model. So, what is the closest Canon to the A720 IS? I've been trying to research this on my own, but I'm totally confused. Thanks everyone!

I’m so sorry this happened, especially during such an important occasion. I’ve been a photographer for 20 years, and if this happened to me, I’d be very upset.
There are actually numerous cameras that compare to what you had, but within Canons camera line I did find two that I feel are close matches. The first is the Canon A2000is, which comes with a 6x optical zoom, but no optical viewfinder. The second is the Canon A1000is which does have the optical viewfinder, but only has a 4x optical zoom. Both of these cameras are ten megapixels, and I feel would be a great replacement for your old camera.
On a side note, if you have homeowners/rental insurance, your loss may be covered by your insurance. I hope this information helps out.
