200 Years of Frankenstein!

by Social Media Specialist Social Media Specialist ‎08-30-2018 10:03 AM - edited ‎08-30-2018 10:45 AM

FrankensteinWhat could be more pleasant than taking an extended vacation in Switzerland in the middle of the summer?  This may have been what Mary Shelley and her compatriots were thinking when they headed out to Lake Geneva together.  The weather was found to be unexpectedly sour.  Rain was relentlessly falling, and the ground was freezing overnight.  Seeking reprieve, the company gathered inside to tell ghost stories, and, in doing so, inadvertently defined an entire genre of literature.  Book lovers around the world would never sleep soundly again.

The Itchiest Day of the Year

by on ‎08-20-2018 08:00 AM

mosquito-movieI think mosquitos are absolutely horrible.  You could almost say they're worse than bees, honestly.  Just think about it: How many times have you been bitten by a mosquito, versus being stung by a bee?  Chances are, the former far outweighs the latter.

These blood-sucking monsters seem to possess the demonic ability to track down any form of human life and attack it with their needle-like noses, over and over.  Even bug spray sometimes wasn't enough to stop their evil forces in this 1995 thriller movie, but I suppose it's better to try and fail than to simply surrender to their itchy vengeance.

Workshop

At a month shy of turning a year wiser, there is nothing more than I like to do than to reflect on my past year. The special moments and memories that have passed in the last year, most of them coming from a device we all know too well, my cell phone. Each picture telling a story of my children’s mischief moments, a Pinterest fail, or our family trips.

Lefthanders Day- Why Everyone Should Want To Be Left-Handed

Left Hand.jpeg

Lefthanders Day, which is on August 13, started twenty-nine years ago as a way to bring attention to the difficulties lefties face living in a world that was not designed for us. Although being left-handed comes with its own struggles such as smearing everything you write, awkward handshakes, having everything you cut look like a three year old got ahold of scissors, and bumping elbows with anyone who is bold enough to sit next to you, being left-handed should be something to rejoice.

Here’s some things to celebrate about being left handed:

  • We are better at 3D perceptions and thought processing. (Is this really a surprise given years of outside the box thinking to make right handed products work for us?)
  • Lefties are more likely to go in to a creative field, such as the arts or music.
  • It is believed that all polar bears are southpaws, as well as 50% of cats so we’re in excellent and very cute company.
  • We make up just 10% of the world’s population and it’s been that way for thousands of years.
  • Despite the struggles we have faced, like having left being associated with evil or wrong in multiple languages and cultures (it’s gone so far that there is a phobia of left-handed people and things being to the left called sinistrophobia), leaders throughout history are more likely to be lefties.
