National Drink Wine Day

For those of us who thoroughly enjoy a lovely glass of wine, we could only be happier to have another reason to partake in this flavorful experience. Lucky for us, one reason is right around the corner! February 18 is known as National Drink Wine Day. This is a day to celebrate the love of wine, along with all the benefits that come from drinking wine. These range from the health benefits offered from reasonable consumption of wine, to the fun experiences of hanging with friends and family.

If you are a wine drinker like I am, it only helps to know that many wines offer health benefits when drinking in moderation. While it is never good to overly consume, having a serving of vino occasionally yields many benefits if you drink the correct wine. Let's talk about those health benefits!

Health Benefits
-Boosts immune system
-Increases bone density
-Reduces the risk of stroke
-Reduces the risk of heart disease
-Lower cholesterol
-Reduces risk of type 2 diabetes
-Reduces risk of cancer
-Improves cognitive function
-Promotes longevity

You may be now wondering; what types of wines are healthy? The healthiest wines to consume are dry reds, orange wine, and rosé. These are all loaded with antioxidants due to the fermentation process that still includes the grape skin. While these are all quite healthy, you still need to stick with an appropriate serving size. The recommended serving size of wine is 5 oz. Woman are advised to stick to one serving, while men are a little luckier and can have 2 servings.

Putting aside the health benefits, wine is a wonderful addition to social gatherings. There is nothing better than getting friends and family together and enjoying the company with a good bottle of Pinot Noir paired with the perfect snack. Wine lovers always hit the jackpot when they find a great snack pairing to compliment their wine selection. Some favored combinations are listed below if you are looking for any ideas!

Dark chocolate with a Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect combination to experience the full depths of flavor that a nice red wine offers. A decadent slice of cheesecake also pairs wonderfully with red wines. Melon, prosciutto, and mozzarella skewers with a Rosé offer a light and fresh tasting experience. Strong cheese and olives with orange wine work together perfectly to offer that savory combination.

I fancy the old fashion corkscrew bottle opener even though there are many electric openers that work great for a lot of a people. I find it more thrilling to be able to do the work to manually pull out the cork of a bottle. Since we are talking fancy, below is such a cute and classy option to use for opening your bottles of heaven!

In the words of Ernest Hemingway, "Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing."
