October has a lot to love between the trees changing colors, crisp fall air, trick or treating, and all things pumpkin. But did you know that October also has a day just to celebrate your love of all things chocolate? October 28 is National Chocolate Day, and I am extremely excited to spend the day celebrating by eating some of my favorite foods.
This year National Chocolate Day falls on a Sunday, so it’s the perfect chance to get creative and incorporate chocolate in to a delicious breakfast. For me, hot cocoa and using my Bella Belgian Flip Waffle Maker to make chocolate waffles with strawberries and some homemade whipped cream sounds like the perfect way to start the day.
What chocolate day is complete without curling up on the couch to watch a movie that makes you want to move to a small town in France and open a chocolate shop? I’m referring to the classic Chocolat, which features favorites such as Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench and Johnny Depp. While the movie is set in the perfect place to embody National Chocolate Day, the story is also one of my favorites-rich, smooth, and a decadent treat for your soul.
Once I’m done watching Chocolat, I know I’ll be in the mood to make some chocolate creations myself. Since I’m not a skilled chocolatier, I’ll stick to baking my chocolate goodies. My favorite dessert is chocolate lava cookies, which are basically double chocolate chip cookies with a molten center. For them to come out properly, I have the daunting task of beating cold butter for several minutes. That’s where my KitchenAid Stand Mixer comes in to save the day (or more saves my arm from beating cold butter which is a real workout). If you don’t have one and like to bake, I highly recommend looking in to getting a stand mixer. Having the freedom to multitask while the standing mixer runs makes every recipe easier as it allows you to use that time preparing the next steps.
If you have a KitchenAid Mixer and are looking to make something delicious and different, check out KitchenAid’s Ice Cream Maker attachment. It can take some time to get everything perfectly chilled, but you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to make some of your favorite ice cream flavors, as well as create new ones.
Halloween is right around the corner, so I think making a chocolate haunted house is the perfect way to celebrate National Chocolate Day while getting ready for Halloween. Lots of grocery stores have started to sell haunted house cookie kits this time of year. Pick one up or you can make a house from scratch and see if you can make it look like your own home!
