They say laughter is the best medicine, but where do you get it?

The ha-spital.

Okay, okay… that was cheesy. But what else would you expect on National Let’s Laugh Day? Today is a day to remember that you shouldn’t be serious all the time, and laughter is truly the best medicine. According to Mayo Clinic, a good laugh can stimulate many organs including your heart and lungs, activate and relieve your stress response, and aid in muscle relaxation.

There’s lots of things that can trigger a good laugh (like a terrible joke for example – see above), but what really does it for me is a comical show or movie.

On BestBuy.com you can shop movies and TV shows by genre, which I find super helpful when trying to narrow down what I’m in the mood to watch. Especially when I need a mood booster! If you navigate to the comedy genre, you’ll find over one thousand great series and flicks to choose from. Here are just a few of my favorites available right now, and I’ve categorized the type of laughter that might ensue when you watch them!

The Office: The Complete Series [DVD]

This witty series is sure to make you cachinnate. This means to laugh loudly, which I find myself doing every few episodes when Dwight Schrute acts out or Michael Scott does something embarrassing. You can always count on this hilarious mockumentary that follows the lives of employees at a paper company to raise your spirits.

Schitt's Creek: The Complete Collection [DVD]

It’s impossible not to chortle when watching this light-hearted sitcom! This is a deep laugh that usually provokes laughter in others. You can imagine what hilarious things happen when a once-wealthy family is forced to live in a motel after they go broke, leaving their pampered lifestyle behind. On a few occasions, I’d be watching this show and let out a good chortle. Then one of my friends would come in the room starting to laugh with me and ask what I’m watching. Between Moira’s line delivery and David’s mannerisms, I can’t help myself!

Rush Hour Trilogy [Blu-ray] [4 Discs]

It’s been a while since I’ve watched these, but the Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker duo is the best! I would often find myself snickering at different action scenes and wisecracks between the two characters. It’s a perfect blend of classic crime fighting and comedy.

Knives Out [Includes Digital Copy] [Blu-ray/DVD] [2019]

The best combination of mystery and comedy with a bunch of great actors! This film is sure to make you at least smirk during various scenes as a detective attempts to unravel the mystery behind a crime novelist’s death and the dysfunctional family’s role in the tragedy. It’s impossible to view this as a totally serious mystery movie when there’s so many quirky characters.

The Benchwarmers/Zookeeper/Grown Ups/Paul Blart: Mall Cop/Jack and Jill/Just Go with It [DVD]

 So many great movies in this collection, and at a great price! While I’ve seen almost all of these movies, I can guarantee these films will make you giggle, cackle, and guffaw! My favorite in this set has to be “The Benchwarmers.” I’m talking tear-forming and upturned-head kind of laughter on some occasions. Between a mild-mannered Paul Blart taking on a mall robbery, middle school boys reuniting decades later as grown men, and Richie’s tough guy act as a bunch of nerds start a baseball league, you really can’t go wrong with any of the choices in this collection.
