A fiery sunrise ignites my wonder like no other.  It has a profound way of making me stop & fixate on how beautiful this planet really is & what a lucky little creature I am to be a part of this world.   Whether it’s the sky, the mountains, or the sea that makes you feeling connected to Mother Nature, I think most can agree that this Earth is worth taking care of.   The cool thing is that there has been some amazing advancements in technology that makes it basically effortless to make the eco-friendly choice while simultaneously making you feel you’re in the Tardis woobling towards the future

Nest Thermostat

One of my favorite purchases to this day has been my Nest- Learning Thermostat.   Here’s what I love about it & why I couldn’t resist buying a new one when we moved to a new house; it is smart AND beautiful.   Not only does it have a sleek, modern design, it also picked up on my schedule & adjusted accordingly. When my house is running at energy efficient levels, it will indicate that for me visually by displaying a little green leaf.  I can control it from my smart phone via the Nest App so it’s easy peasy to make adjustments manually if I need to.  It also sends you a nifty little report via email every month so you can stayed informed on how your choices may be impacting not only the environment but your wallet too.

Charge HRSomething that might not be as obviously eco-friendly, but has definitely made an impact on my carbon footprint has been my Fitbit Charge HR.  I know, what?  But seriously.  Every time we use our own body power for transportation while depending less on hopping in our car to make that “walkable” or “bikeable” errand trip, we are not only doing ourselves a favor, but the earth sees the benefits too.  In my experience, I’ve found that making choices that err on the side of Active Living is much easier when I have an accountability device like a Fitbit.  It’s been a huge help for me when it comes to breaking free of some of my vehicle dependence because it monitors & alerts me of my activity levels.  Plus, who doesn’t love being able to feel good about smoking their friend/arch nemesis on a Weekend Warrior Challenge?

This topic is expansive & can’t possibly be covered in one single day, but Earth Day is a good reminder that our environment is a gift.   There are so many cool, innovative ways to incorporate a conscience mindset that may make a larger impact than you may think.  It’s all about finding a balance for your lifestyle.   Let’s keep this planet as healthy as we can going forward so future generations can have their breath taken away from the sunset on their commute homes too (in their Energy Star Certified jet packs.)  Happy Earth Day!
