And by YOU I mean my fellow herbivores; you’re included too! Long gone are the days where vegans and vegetarians are left out of the summer festivities and backyard barbecues. Meatless eating has become a more popular way of life for many. Whether for humanity, health or religious reasons; we’re all in this fight together, and I’m proud to say, we’re kind of Winning!
I’ve adapted the meatless way of life about 2 years ago, and no matter where I go I find myself answering the same question “What do vegetarians eat, lettuce?”
As a matter of fact, We DO! I love lettuce atop my favorite burger, don’t you?
Chefs across the world have revolutionized the meatless industry giving us more options than ever! Whether you decide to take the whole food plant base route or you want the sensation of eating meat without actually doing so, all the bases have been covered for you. So, grab your burger buns, favorite topping and crank up the grill, it’s time to get cooking!
Portabella mushrooms have been used in lieu of meat for decades. This option never gets old, and quite frankly it’s been one of my favorites even before I made the switch. Just add seasonings and marinades and you’ll forget all about the beef. Wholesomelicious.com has a great but simple recipe that will leave you and your guests satisfied!
If you’re looking to be a tad bit craftier in the kitchen and get your hands dirty, One Green Planet has compiled a list of 10 Epic Veggie Burgers you can make yourself. The great thing about these recipes is that the ingredients are interchangeable. Omit what you don’t like or add more of what you love, either way you can’t go wrong! (well, most of the time)
And last but certainly not least, these burger patties on the market today have had me second guessing whether I’m enjoying a meat free treat or not. The textures and flavors are on point, and they’re only getting better with time. While the favorite in my household is Morning Stars Grillers Prime, there are many options available that have received great reviews from vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters near and far. One Green Planet did a great job of rating 15 of some of the most popular/best burgers you may be able to find in a grocery store near you.
After all this burger talk I’m a bit hungry. You’ll be sure to find me at as many cookout as I can squeeze into my summer schedule with a burger in hand. And for the rest of you hosts, don’t be afraid to throw something on the grill for your friends and family members who opt out of meat, I assure you your efforts will be appreciated!
Happy Grilling!
