Big things are coming in the year 2020 and it’s clear Best Buy is on track to reach it’s goal of reducing our footprint on the environment. I’m honored to work for a company who is constantly making strides to make this world a better place for all of us, especially the generations to come. Hearing this news from an employee is great, but let’s take a look at all of the progress Best Buy has made this far!
Newsweek Green ranked Best Buy #27 on the top 500 U.S. companies, which was 8 spots up from 2015. In April 2016 Best Buy announced we’d have 1,000 Toyota Prius C hybrids across the nation as our new Geekmobile’s. This would effectively cut 50 percent of emissions over the previous vehicle’s that were driven by our Geek Squad and it was estimated these vehicle’s would reduce approximately 250,000 gallons of gasoline and almost five million pounds of CO2. This paved the way for 2017, and it was awesome to see even more work is being done everyday!
Late in 2017, Best Buy was awarded a spot on the CDP Climate A List, earning recognition as a global leader in address climate change. We’re doing our best to reduce our carbon emissions by 60 percent by 2020 (over a 2009 baseline) and achieve a carbon neutrality by the year 2050. Between 2017 and 2018 we collected 178 million pounds of electronics for recycling, bringing our total to 1.7 billion pounds since 2009, and there are always more great things in the works!
Have a wonderful Earth Day, and have the peace of mind knowing this big technology company is doing everything in it’s power to save our environment, all while still giving you the latest and greatest in the technology available!
