Did Someone Say Waffles?

I did! And for good reason – it’s International Waffle Day today!

Depending on how technical you want to get with what a “waffle” is and its evolution over thousands of years, it appears that waffles made their way to America in the 1600s. This day of waffle celebration, though, was coined in Sweden after the Feast of Annunciation (a religious holiday called Vårfrudagen) was continually mispronounced as “Waffle Day” (Våffeldagen) in the Swedish language. The Swedes eventually started eating waffles to celebrate. Eventually, this food become a favorite across the world and classified as more of a sweet treat as more butter and sugar was added to recipes, along with jam, honey, and cream. Now, as you know, it’s typically served as a breakfast food. Although, throwing some chicken on top is also popular. I personally love warm butter and syrup on mine. And, if I’m feeling really fancy, I’ll add some whipped cream on top and some berries!

If you’re a pancake lover instead, that’s totally fine. For me, it’s the crunch of a waffle and the way the grooves perfectly collect and hold the semi-melted better and runny syrup. I’ll choose this over a pancake any day! I bet all this waffle talk has you itching (or drooling, rather) for your own heaping plate of this deliciousness. Among the small kitchen appliances sold online at BestBuy.com, you can find more than 20 waffle makers to choose from! What better way to celebrate today?
