Waiting for authorization or not even accepted?



Around 8 hours ago, I tried to buy a laptop from this website with my debit card, but it gave me an error that card was not accepted. Then I thought -unfortunately- that I might wrote a wrong number and tried to purchase it again and it gave the same error. When I just checked my online banking application, I realized there are two payments and refunds one after the other. In my best buy account, under "purchase history" tab, it seems there is no purchase. My concern is, if I will be charged after the shipment, then how can I cancel one of the purchases (because it was by mistake) ? Or I would like to know if my purchase is not even accepted. In my bank account, I have enough money to purchase only one laptop.

Welcome to the Best Buy forum Community! Thank you for thinking of Best Buy when you decided to purchase a new laptop. That’s an exciting purchase but I know it could be disconcerting if it isn’t going the way you would normally expect. I’m happy to speak to you about this so I can hopefully clarify the situation.


Generally speaking, before an order can go through with us online, Best Buy should request authorization from your bank or credit card company. If that authorization is denied, then the order shouldn’t go though. Depending on your financial institutions policies and procedures, that authorization check may show up in different ways on your account. I would advise giving your bank a call to learn more about their specific procedures with authorization. It’s possible that your bank could even be blocking authorization for your laptop order requests if they’re unsure if you’re the one trying to place this order.


With all this in mind, as you’re saying that you received an error saying that your card was not accepted when trying to place your order, it’s unlikely that the order request went through. On top of that, in your post you say that you see the authorization drop right away from both of those attempts, which implies that the orders shouldn’t have gone through. Beyond that, if your orders were accepted you should have received an email confirmation with your order number.
