Q. What is 2-Step Verification?
A. 2-Step Verification is an extra layer of security on your BestBuy.com account. In addition to your password, it helps verify that it’s really you signing in.
Q. Why do I need 2-Step Verification?
A. Unfortunately, password theft happens. With 2-Step Verification, even if someone has your password, they can’t get into your account.
Q. How does 2-Step Verification work?
A. Each time you sign in to your BestBuy.com account, you'll be asked for a security code. You can have the code sent to you via text or you can have it generated from an authenticator app that you download. That means you'll need to enter an email address, password, and security code when signing in.
Q. Can I identify devices that I trust, like my cell phone?
A. Yes. During sign-in, you can let us know that you trust that particular device. From then on, we won't ask for a security code on that device.
Q. What if I want to sign in, but I can't get a security code?
A. If for some reason you can't get a security code, you can use one of your backup codes to access your account. You'll get your backup codes during the setup process. Keep them in a safe place.
Q. Can I turn off 2-Step Verification?
A. Yes. It’s an optional feature that you can set up or disable at any time. Just go into your Account Settings and tap “Disable” to turn it off.
