Preorder Question

Hi there!

I want to place a preorder for a few things, however, I wanted to know does the preorder still drop off from the account I place the order from after a few days? I spoke with someone from Best Buy over the phone and they said the hold stays on your account until the item ships or you pick it up.  The last topic I found on this issue dates from 2018 and that post said that after 3-5 business days the hold drops off and only reappears around the 5 day mark of the item's release. I wanted to make sure that I won't have a large amount of charges on my account for an extended period of time.  Can anyone clarify this for me?

Thanks for reaching out here on the Best Buy Forums again! Welcome back to this awesome platform!


When a pre-order is placed, we take an initial authorization at the time of purchase for the full amount. A few days later, the authorization should fall off of your account, and this is due to the pre-order date often being so far in advance of the release date. Best Buy will then re-authorize for the full amount 5 days prior to release of the item. On release date, the product will ship/fulfill, and we will charge for the full amount.
