Placed an order and item is delayed even though it said it would’ve got here today

I placed an order last week that said it would be delivered today Aug, 21 but I got an email saying that shipping is delayed and it could be for up to a month. Can anybody help me out to cancel the order or speed of the shipping process? Why is this happening, there is stock near my closest stock, so stock should not be an issue. And was only informed that it would be delayed just yesterday! I needed the item now, as I would be moving in 2 days to college and really need the item for studying purposes.
