Not fulfilling pre-orders?!?

I would have loved to watch the movie I pre-ordered weeks ago however I was met with a "sorry we're out of stock" email this morning. The day it's being released?!? Even though it was still available at that time and I changed my pickup location to another store, that was accepted, I received almost 2 hours later another email of "sorry we're out of stock". Now it's completely unavailable. I suppose if we were giving out awards for not fulfilling pre-orders BESTBUY would be the winner today. After calling customer support I'm only offered the option to cancel my order and receive a refund. While this isn't news to me and an obvious solution that I can clearly do without the need to call in I suppose I was expecting more from being an Elite customer... LOL guess not and lesson learned.

New release movies, particularly SteelBook editions, can be really popular with collectors. Sometimes, we may run out of copies. I apologize for any disappointment that this caused you. If the movie is out of stock, we may be unable to fulfill your order. Were you able to get your order cancellation processed through?

Riiight... so riddle this me batman. What's the point of taking pre-orders if they aren't going to be fulfilled? If I didn't have a pre-order then I would understand something is out-of-stock but the fact that I've had a pre-order and it cannot be fulfilled is not acceptable. I fully understand that steelbooks go out-of-stock often... hense the reason I pre-ordered... and alas... collectors are not the only ones buying these as eBay has numerous being posted by the minute.

So aside from this "Social Media Specialist" reply BestBuy has nothing more to say in 2 days?!? Maybe I should revisit thoughts of future purchases... I mean who am I... just a customer that has spend thousands of $$$ over the years. A bologna cookie cutter response is an insult.

If you changed your pickup location 2 hours before receiving the message - your steelbook was sent to the original store and the store you swapped too probably only got enough for their pre-orders. When pre-orders are processed the inventory is set aside to send to that store. These shipments are generally done days in advance. So if you changed stores at the last minute, that would be my guess as to what happened.

Just speculating based off of previous experiences though.
